The gym means many things to different people. We all have a unique history, our own journeys and our own goals. Exercise can help with a multitude of emotional and physical challenges. It is impossible to look at someone in the gym and judge them on what you think they are trying to achieve. Sure for some of us we want to solely look better, for others it can be to improve their lifestyles, move better, try and limit potential health issues, and to even help increase confidence. Then there are those who use the gym to become strong mentally, to overcome probably the most challenging experiences they have ever had to face, which lead us to Shelly’s story:
For me, Lougars isn’t just a gym, it’s a family.
People from all walks of life, supporting each other in a safe space.
I gained so much weight! I was put on steroids and anti sickness tablets, I bloated quick and fast. I would say I went from a size 14 to a size 22 in the space of a year. My confidence went straight out the window.. Cancer doesn’t just damage your soul, it’s damages your layers too, I’ve had many health problems over the years due to it, and been left with life long body and facial changes, but eating healthy and working out at the gym has improved my confidence a lot..
I’ve always struggled with Gyms, I always felt uncomfortable, not wanted, and just another customer spending ridiculous amounts of money with no support, so as you can imagine I didn’t get the results I wanted, I soon left unhappy and defeated.
Then 2 years ago I joined Lougars with some friends, I never felt uncomfortable, I felt welcomed and most importantly supported, Literally life changing for me;
I wish I had found this gem sooner!
I’ve lost the weight I absolutely hated, I’m stronger, fitter and most of all my soul is finally in a good place.
2 years on, I go to the gym on a regular basis, working towards goals, wearing clothes I thought I never would be wearing, I actually like who I’ve become.
I know I’ve put the work in, but 100% if it wasn’t for Clare & Lougars Gym I wouldn’t be where I am now, and most of all, I’m Happy.
You can achieve anything in this life, you just need the right support & guidance, in a positive space, I believe I’ve found this.
